El Sereno Celebrates New Home for Community Center (2008)


A celebration to mark the grand opening of El Sereno’s new Barrio Action Youth and Family Center was festive and exciting for everyone involved. The beautifully constructed, three-story, 34,000-square-foot building is the new home for Barrio Action, which has provided social services, primarily directed to youth, in Northeast Los Angeles for 25 years. Barrio Action Expands Its Mission to Help Youth (2002)


In 1977, Sister Emmanuel Barragan started Barrio Action, hoping to help gang members in the El Sereno community learn to read and write. Twenty-five years later, Barrio Action Youth & Family Center, still active but with an expanded mission, is serving El Sereno families and helping young people graduate from high school.(Read More)
